Catherine De Boise originally from the UK and now based in a small coastal town on the Mornington Peninsula (Boon Wurrung country) has created a stunning MINI SOLO inspired by the abundant natural beauty in the surrounding area. Catherine's tranquil beach scenes are highly sort after, and we are bursting with excitement to reveal her MINI SOLO collection for us!
We chat to Catherine about her journey as an artist and collection online April 26th 1.30pm. Make sure you set your alarm, so you don't miss out on this event!
How did your painting journey start?
I've always been creative, it's what I loved most at school, and I went on to get a degree in Textile design. I think it was four years ago on a trip to the outback that I got out some paints and started painting the landscape around me and I haven't looked back.
What are some of your favourite things that have happened so far in your art life?
The first time I saw my work displayed in a local store and someone bought it was such an amazing moment and gave me the confidence to keep going. Obviously being a mini solo artist is a definite highlight!
What draws people to your work?
People gravitate to my work for several reasons. Often, it's the connection to place, of special memories spent at that spot or the happiness that place brings to them. I find my work is often a little window into a moment of peace and tranquillity and I love that I'm able to create and share that with others.
What's the inspiration for this mini solo about?
This collection for the mini solo is all about taking a moment to breathe and relax. I've painted the places I like to go to walk, seek some quiet time and be inspired by. Using a soft colour palette, I've aimed to capture the light in the early evenings, the coastal plants such as the banksia and grasses that line the tracks to the beach and the glimpses of ocean. I hope that these paintings provide people with the chance to bring the peace of nature into their homes.
If you had any advice for emerging artists, what would it be?
Enjoy the ride, it's a real privilege to be able to do something you love. There are slow times but try to use them positively to gather new ideas and experiment. Enter local art shows and online ones. I've recently joined an artist collective and don't be shy to ask other artists for advice. I'm also thankful to friends with superior IT skills to mine! Having the opportunity to have work shown on Petite collection and having my own solo is amazing!
